Camp

Eco-conscious luxury with a twist of humanness

Fully equipped tented luxury chalets coupled with an attentive service

Location & Getting There

The Makini bushcamp is situated on the border of the Yala National Park buffer zone, close to the Maliththan Pelessa wewa, which is a hotspot for elephants.

Given the proximity to the park, getting there requires a vehicle able to navigate relatively rough terrain. After parking your vehicle in a safe designated area, you are transported by a 4-wheel drive vehicle to the camp premises, which is approximately 2.5 km away. The road leading to the campsite is naturally paved by layering sticks collected from the forest itself. All footpaths within the camp are also done in a similar way to preserve the natural surroundings as well as to encourage wildlife to roam in their accustomed natural habitat.

Where You Will Stay

The Makini Bushcamp is the culmination of an eco-conscious luxury concept. At the heart of Makini is the need to make a lasting impression on each and every guest. This is most evident when you stay at one of the tented chalets.

Within the boundaries of Makini Bushcamp, we have carefully planned private and intimate tented chalets embroidered with a natural boundary. Each luxury chalet is tailored with a fire and water resistant canvas cover which keeps the heat away and reduces the humidity -- A must do when considering that dry zone temperatures soar into the high 30’s. We have designed each air-conditioned chalet with an open verandah, an open-sky bathroom and all the amenities needed for a luxurious stay.

Each chalet has its own spacious plunge pool with jet streams, to soothe your body after a day’s activities -- so stretch out and relax.

Hospitality was superb, fantastic food from the cook, especially with small children we enjoyed these services a lot

Natural Ecosystems Of The Camp

For the curious minded, the confines of the camp offers many an opportunity. There are a number of endemic fauna and flora from the rare to the bright to the prickly! Here at Makini, we embrace creatures of all sizes, and one of the most lively spots on the camp is the pond area, where you will encounter numerous insects, amphibians, fish and other vertebrates and invertebrates that have flourished. This in turn, has attracted predatory species such as birds and nocturnal mammals, increasing the natural order within the camp itself.

The great knowledge on the wildlife, a perfectly organized itinerary and the attention to every tiny detail by Makini, made the safari outstanding and unforgettable
